Competition Team auditions
We will hold auditions on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024
for dancers wishing to participate with the Competition Program in the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Tuesday, May 21st, 2024
5:00 - 6:00 Rising 1st through 5th graders
6:00 - 7:00 Rising 6th through 12th graders
Auditions are to let us see who would like to participate, as well as how the group fits together and what age ranges we will have.
Any of our students enrolled in at least one dance class per week are welcome to participate.
If you think your dancer might be interested, please reach out to either Wendie or Amanda with questions.
We will speak with dancers and their families at auditions about how many group numbers in which they would like to participate, as well as any solos, duets, or trios. All dancers must participate in at least one group number in order to compete a solo/duet/trio.
(This is a requirement of most of the competitions.)
We plan to hold some choreography camps throughout the summer - we will work out specific schedules after we know who is performing in each dance, and based on the choreographers' and dancers' availability. This will let us learn the choreography for all of our pieces, and then be ready to practice and clean each week as the new season begins in August.
It is important to us to make participating in the Competition program as affordable as possible,
but families should be aware there are some additional costs:
Monthly rehearsal fees (beginning with the new season in August) will be $40 per month, and $35 per month for additional dancers within the same family. Please note monthly rehearsal fees are separate from the "All You Can Dance" rate, or any other special tuition pricing, but families will have the same opportunities for discounts if choosing to pay for the semester or year in advance.
Dancers will have one weekly rehearsal as part of their regular class schedules,
and we will have additional Saturday rehearsals that we will schedule around staff and dancer availability.
There will most likely be one Saturday rehearsal per month for groups and one for solos/duets/trios in the fall semester,
and more after the first of the year.
We plan to have the full Saturday rehearsal schedules as well as the dates for our competitions to give to families in the fall so they may plan accordingly.
The studio will cover choreography fees for any group numbers.
Families will be responsible for choreography fees for any solos, duets, or trios for their dancer.
While all of our dancers did participate in at least one of these numbers this year, participation in solos/duets/trios is entirely voluntary.
Choreography fees:
Duets or Trios: $75/dancer
Solos: $100
Every competition has entry fees for which families will be responsible. We plan to stay with competitions in our area, to avoid travel expenses.
Families should expect that entry fees for group number will be approximately $50 - $65 per dancer, duets/trios are usually $70 - $90 per dancer, and solos usually run $110 - $150.
We plan to participate in 3 competitions.
We will give you the totals for all entry fees in the fall --
families are encouraged to make payments on these fees throughout the fall semester.
The studio is unable to front competition entry fees that have not been paid by families,
so it's important they are paid in full before they are due to the competitions.
We were so proud of our dancers that are competing in the current season,
and we're excited that some additional students have expressed an interest in participating next year!
Please do not hesitate to ask us if you have any questions at all. It is important to us that all of our programs, including the competition team, serve our students' needs. Our goals are always to provide a safe, fun environment for our dancers, and to help them succeed, not just in dance, but with skills that help them grow into the phenomenal adults we know they're going to be. Trophies, medals, and plaques are nice, but it is more important to provide our dancers an opportunity to perform in a new environment, learn to work together as a team, and understand the importance of working hard if there is a goal you want to achieve.
