Creative Edge Dance Studio
“Assistant Teacher”

Please note -- the application process will close Friday, June 6th.

We are excited to bring a new Assistant Teacher program to the studio. Being an Assistant Teacher for our younger dancers is a privilege and an honor. These younger dancers will look up to the Assistants for more than just dance. You are helping to shape and lead our younger dancers as they grow in Creative Edge Dance Studio. To make sure our Assistants are meeting the CEDS standard we hope to achieve,  we ask that you apply through the link below, as well as agree to follow the guidelines listed below.

This is a volunteer opportunity, but we will have tons of special treats and “thank yous”  for our Assistants, as well as acknowledging them at the recitals. Dancers may also use this as an opportunity for any needed volunteer hours, and we are happy to sign off on those for them.

Guidelines for CEDS Assistant Teachers:

Dancers must be 12 or older to apply.
Dancers will be expected to attend their own dance classes regularly.
Dancers will be expected to wear appropriate attire for their own classes. The more the leaders of CEDS show respect to teachers and choreographers by coming to class prepared and in the right attire, the more others will follow.
Leotard, tights, proper shoes
Hair pulled into a bun
Dancers will be expected to set an example as a leader at CEDS by being respectful during their own classes:
Talking to a minimum. Dancing full out throughout the entire class.
Dancers will understand that the office is for adult staff only. Dancers will be asked to keep their dance bags and clothing in the lobby.

What Assistant Teachers will be asked to do:

The #1 goal of a teaching assistant is to keep the lead teacher focused on teaching. Assistants should plan to find any problems before they stop the progress of class.
Examples: tying shoes, keeping students focused and engaged, keeping students on their tape color and not wandering the room, and if a child looks upset or tearful go to them and quietly help them without bringing too much attention to the situation.
Assistants should arrive 10 minutes prior to class time to change into the appropriate shoes and gather materials.
Check the tape colors before each day begins for missing or damaged colors. Please replace as needed.
Assistants should grab the suckers,  stickers, or other supplies for the classes that need the - making sure to grab enough for all classes you are assisting with.
Assistants should take attendance after the class does the warm up for the day, adjusting attendance for any student who arrives after class has begun.
Assistants should greet any student who arrives after class has begun, meet them at the door, help them put up their box and find their color.
Assistants should be helping students during the across the floor section of class.
Examples: helping individuals with technique correction or being on the opposite side of the room to help line them back up to go across again.
Assistants should help students individually with steps during one on one time.
Assistants should take the lead in handing out or picking up props, allowing the lead teacher the ability to move the class onto the next activity.
Assistants should help with bathroom breaks through the following protocols.
Preschool Combo: take dancers out to their grown-up to take them potty. If their grown-up is not in the lobby, you must stay with them to help or find Ms. Wendie or Ms. Amanda.
Ballet A/Tap A: take dancers out to their grown-up or if they can go to the bathroom by themselves, Assistants must stay by the bathroom door to make sure they do not need help, and that they make it back to class immediately after they are done.
Assistants should stand by the door after class is done to make sure dancers do not leave without a grown-up with them.
Assistants will bring any dancer whose grown-up is not in the building at the dismissal of class to Ms. Amanda or Ms. Wendie.
Assistants should be able to demonstrate proper technique as well as dancing full out throughout the class, giving our younger dancers the best example possible.
Assistants should not be a distraction during the class.
Assistants will be asked to learn all choreography. There will be times when you will be asked to lead dances so teachers can observe any corrections that need to be made.
Assistants will be asked to perform on stage for most classes. Assistants should be able to perform the recital pieces with confidence.
